Towards Advent and Liz's birthday
Saturday to cathedral hall for Towards Advent event for Catholics opened by the Archbishop and Cardinal Vaughan school choir conducted by Charles Cole. We set up the Society of St Gregory stall and all the old magazines went and a lot of leaflets although some people read the leaflet and then put it back. I suggested taking it to their parish. It was very wet so numbers were down. I went to a talk on Christianity in Iraq by the Catholic woman of the year and Liz went to Joanna Bogle's talk on English Catholic heroines. Saw John East and lots of folk we know. Tea at M & S and then vespers and Mass which was a confirmation done by Bishop Alan Hopes very well indeed. Paul M looked after things. Dennis took us to the Jugged Hare in Vauxhall Bridge Road for a nice meal. I had jugged hare pie and bread and butter pudding. Sunday Liz to cathedral and to Coulsdon where we sang Campion's exquisite "Never weather beaten sail" which Sarah and Norman West enjoyed as they sang it on their cruise! Practised with Molly and practised for next week. I was due to play Trumpet Tine of Purcell and realised at last moment I had Stanley instead!
A very nice lunch prepared by Liz. 10 at the table - Grandma, Josie, Louise looking very large, Tom, Dennis, Grainne, Claire, Sophia and Alexis in his buggy. Louise and Tom assembled the buggy. Tom got the computer to go much more quickly which is a blessing. Took the ladies home and Dennis to East Croydon. Liz then off to Birmingham as the fridge freezer coming Monday and she enjoyed the big German Christmas market. I did December music list and she was back Monday. I enjoyed "Enid" about Enid Blyton's extraordinary home life. To tai chi Monday. In the evening to South bank university for Southwark event for National Interfaith week. This was a panel on getting planning permission for faith groups. 62% Christian but 2/3rds of applications are turned down. i cannot imagine Croydon or Wandsworth holding such a consultation. The Korsovo interfaith choir sang with great gusto. Met a lady from Southwark cathedral and one who works for the church commissioners. Nice sandwiches but it wasn't an interfaith event!
Tuesday swam 36 again although it was busy. Met Humphrey on both train journeys and had seen Daisy on Monday. Ian Giles set up his display about the Mojave desert project and showed his art work. Cllr McDermott came and was impressed by the library. He sets off tomorrow for 24 days.
Watched Life about insects - fantastic photography of butterflies.
