Reading
Saturday was an enjoyable day in Reading. William McVicar demonstrated the fine organ in the Town hall an untouched Willis with amusing anecdotes and Norman Harper demonstrating. There was time to see the copy of the Bayeux tapestry and the museum and lunch there. Quite a walk to and from St Giles but a fine Bishop organ in a very High Church building. Got to Mass in good time and Brian was doing the first scrutiny presenting the Creed. I haled mike and Michael the book. Went well. Fr Martin got me to take communion to the choir Byron consort from Harrow school and they sang Poulenc really well. Liz was at the hospital. Watched end of Big painting challenge Suman won, Pottery challenge was good too. Tired out.
Sunday morning and evening at Caterham in between lunch and to hospital to see Henry who looks well and should come home today Monday. Lent prose went well today and I played Bach O lamm Hottest unschuldig and Lasceux Fugue in G minor. Played Herzleibster Jesu by Brahms and a lovely Prelude on Caswall by Peter Hurford which I played when I started 50 years ago and Dad gave me his 1959 copy in 1972.
Monday St Joseph's day mass, mosaic and tai chi. Watched string quartets at the BBC and Mary Berry. Dressing off and able to have a shower. To Bromley circle and they were entertaining Croydon. John Rayer was there and spoke about the public speaking. Tuesday I went to Mass and quiet time then over to Acton. Liz was busy with Henry and left the car at Glyn Close but I did not see him.
Wednesday Tom was working near home and electricians came so took Sean to Mass. Classes from school there but did not see CiarĂ¡n. Annoyed to find Acton library shut because of no toilets (!) so to MacDonalds and then to Ealing central library. Joined up Sean and borrowed 4 one of which he read! To nice cafe for tea. Set off in good time to get to Camberwell Sacred Heart. Liz made it too -she had been for mammograph. The standard was high from the 12 speakers and the judges including me had a problem. In the end we chose Clarissa from St Gregory's Tunbridge Wells on "Hamilton" and the runner up was Rachael on Racism. Enjoyed several of them. Nice eats. Home on bus tired out.
