Desert Island discs

Sir Simon Rattle's choices were interesting - Mahler, Bach, Haydn, Janacek and jazz. He chose his partner Maddalena's voice as his final choice because he said he is a sentimental old man! And his book "Don Quixote" because he loves reading novels and his luxury a cappucino maker. I went back to church for 3 to practise and evensong went OK - Sumsion in A, Mendelssohn "There shall a star". I played some Noels. Nice reception in the vicarage to say farewell to David and Carol. On TV watched Rosemary Neldon in Soweto and how she formed her string orchestra and violin school - wonderful woman. Sense and sensibility came to a joyful conclusion and Antiques Roadshow was from Liverpool.

Interesting. I also watched Antiques Roadshow from St George's Hall, Lime Street, L'Pool. It brought back memories of sneaking into the Hall and hiding behind a pillar when young, to hear George Thalban Ball play the lovely organ there.

I heard Professor Ian Tracey play there - a fantastic programme including several big works. i heard GTB play twice and he was great. He also auditioned me as a tenor although he didn't have a vacancy at the Temple. Interesting that the Willis tuner still uses one of Willis's tools!

Vigil

 Saturday a memorable day. SM walk in Muswell Hill. To Parliament and met up with Kate, Lyn and Graham. So many people and buggies! The tourist trade has clearly revived. Glad I took my chair and the 2 hours went quickly. Ecological Stations and Rosary and Laudate Deum meditation. William Rhind and animators came. Sean and Ciaran came and Louise and Tom went to a party in Coulsdon. We went to Mass and I spoke to the lady from CAFOD. Petition nearly at 1000! Sunday Lent 1 Played Demessieux on Attende domine which Linda and I sang. Prelude and fughetta Franck. A mosy enjoyable family lunch at Westow House. Lamb and lemon posset. Had a sleep! Evensong Howells Like as the hart. Wierd hymn Christian dost thou see them to St Andrew of Crete by Dykes. Throwdown was good. Ben Fogle in the Congo. Antiques roadshow.
